Summer’s Interest Rate Mystery

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Mike Fitzpatrick The end of the Spring brought an end to the Federal Reverses view interest rates need to positioned in a way of stimulating the economy. For most of the past few years interest rates consistently moved downward as the Federal Reserve launched an ambitious plan to prevent deflation and bring a reversal to a stagnant economy. Low interest rates helped to keep the U.S. economy afloat while the excesses of the 1990s worked their way off. The United State economic rally last Winter brought a dramatic increase in the level of economic growth, but at the same time an unwelcome spike in inflation fueled primarily by rising commodity prices. Strong economic growth and signs of inflation convinced Alan Greenspan and Co., interest rates should be raised to reflect an economy on solid footing. During the last three FOMC meetings, Alan Greenspan raised interest rates by a quarter point in order to bring short term interest rates to a more neutral level. The rate hikes took short term rates to 175 basis points. Despite higher short term rates, throughout the summer long term rates have unexpectedly move downward. This surprising movement in long term rates contributed to Morgan Stanley missing estimates during their latest quarterly earnings report, and has puzzled many Wall Street analysts. While some analysts may indicate the recent economic slowdown as the reason for this abnormality, a more practical explanation lies in the United States large economic imbalances. Over the past year the United States has experienced a troubling climb in the trade deficit, with nearly every monthly reading reaching a new record. The most pronounced rise occurred early in the summer and more recent reports have reinforced the notion our trade with foreign nations is growing more unbalanced. Earlier this year economists cited an unbalanced world recovery, with Europe in particular, failing to reach their maximum growth potential for the growing trade deficit but more recently as the world economy slowed down economic imbalances have further expanded. International banks acting on the behalf of their national governments have been snapping up U.S. government securities since the Asian economic crisis in the late 1990s to keep their exchange rates artificially low. A strong U.S. dollar, despite economic fundamentals indicating the dollar is overvalued, has allowed Asian nations to stimulate their economy through a trade surplus with the United States. A strong dollar is fueling a drive by U.S. companies to outsource jobs overseas in order to remain competitive. Despite the argument outsourcing helps to lower prices for American consumers, which is true, the flow of American money to foreign nations help explain why this recovery has not led to a boom in employment opportunities. Each of the past few years the U.S. trade and federal spending situations have consistently deteriorated. The recession and slow recovery combined with increased security needs following 9/11 to put pressure on the Federal Governments finances. Ever larger U.S. government funding gaps has provided an opportunity for foreign banks to fill their unbalanced trade with our nation by purchasing U.S. government securities. Thus keeping world trade unbalanced and allowing foreign corporations and domestic outsourcers to take advantage of low cost locations in Asia for manufacturing production. During 2004, the economic recovery picked up some steam and lead to an unexpectedly large increase in federal government receipts. A federal government budget deficit expected to approach $500 billion in 2004 has been revised downward to $375 billion. At the same time goods continue to pour in from Asian nations, especially China. The U.S. current account deficit set a record at $166 billion during the second quarter. Should the current account numbers seen during the second quarter be projected out for a full fiscal year, there is a $225 billion surplus of demand going into purchases of U.S. government securities. This demand is creating downward pressure on long term interest rates. The last time a significant gap emerged between the U.S. federal funding needs and international trade deficits was in 2000 at the height of the dot com boom. The circumstances are slightly different this time around, but some similarities certainly should emerge over the coming months. In 2000 economic growth was peaking as the Federal Reserve aggressively increased short term rates to rein in the economy. Interest rate spreads at the time were very narrow as a result of investors recognizing inflation was not an ongoing concern despite a robust economy. It would not be unsurprising to see interest rate spreads further narrow as the Federal Reserve continues to push short term rates up. Higher short term rates should continue to be offset with a continuing demand for U.S. securities from foreign banks to keep long term lending rates near the levels they currently are. Though, investors should be complacent about holding U.S. treasury securities should persistently high oil prices push inflation levels beyond comfortable levels. Forecasting future interest rate moves can always be a tricky guess and the long term implications are much tougher to predict. It is expected that the U.S. governments finances will improve over the coming decade as the economic expansion gains further strength. The Federal Reserve will undoubtedly continue to gradually push short term rates upward over the course of the next year baring a prolonged weak spot or an unwelcome bout of inflation. The foreign appetite for U.S. dollars to fill international trade gaps should continue to provide stimulus to bond prices. With foreigners currently holding about 75% of U.S. government debt, over the long term foreign banks will be forced to take more aggressive risks in order to hold down their monetary units or allow their currencies to gain in value against the dollar. There are growing signs of concern for the U.S. large economic unbalances by some Asian governments. U.S. treasury officials, who have been pushing China to revalue the yuan higher, may be pleased if China increases the yuans peg against the dollar by 5-10% prior to the end of this year as is being speculated by some. Should the Chinese revaluate their currency, it would not be surprising if other Asian nations follow a similar path. 5 Easy Tips to Shed a Few Extra Pounds

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Tony Martin The Christmas season is a time when most people tend to let go, throwing caution to the wind. Overspending on credit cards, overindulging on alcohol and just eating a bit too much are some of the outcomes. Come January/February and we get a huge shock when we see the credit card bill, or step on the bathroom scale. I can’t help you with the credit card bill, but can help loose those extra pounds. One true fact about weight loss is ‘No Pain, No Gain’ or maybe that should be no pain no loss. There is no quick fix when it comes to shedding off those pounds regardless of what medical remedies may say. Your body weight doesnt just consist of fat, some of the weight is water weight while some is muscle but we are all mostly concerned about weight due to fat which unfortunately is the hardest to loose. Water weight is relatively easy to loose which is also why some of these remedies or drugs that claim to help you loose weight in a matter of days are most likely false. You might loose weight when you check the bathroom scale but is it really fat youre loosing? Here are five relatively easy tips to get you started in loosing weight which you should be able to fit into your current lifestyle easily but remember, you need to put in the effort. 1) Get rid of those soda cans and get water bottles.I am amazed everyday by how many people drink very little or no water at all. Drinking more water in itself can make you loose weight. The body is made up of 75% water and is therefore vital for our organs to have as much water as possible. The liver is responsible for the breakdown of fat in the body so by not drinking water, the liver cant work as efficiently and more fat is retained in the body. Get a small 500ml water bottle and keep it topped up when at work, taking regular sips. Aim to finish about 3 4 bottles a day. This would also mean you make regular trips to the bathroom thereby doing more exercise. 2) If you drive to work, park on the farthest parking spot from your office door available. This shouldnt be too hard to do and should most often than not be empty. More distance to walk means more exercise. 3) Substitute that crisp/sweet/chocolate box for a box of grapes, strawberries or tangerines. We all get the feeling where we feel like munching on something and most time reach for a little piece of candy. Well the little piece of candy does a lot of damage. This may take a bit more will power but you need to make a cautious effort. Grapes and strawberries are perfect when you feel like munching on something and provide the same feel good factor you get from eating crisps and chocolates. 4) Change your walking pace. Believe it or not, but walking faster or slower can increase the amount of calories you burn for a given distance. We all have a natural walking pace which is always the pace that uses the least amount of energy, and mostly, your momentum helps in keeping this energy to a minimum. But what we want is to increase the energy we use whilst walking right? Walking slower means the momentum of your body is lower; therefore your muscles do more work in lifting and moving your legs burning more calories. Walking faster or power walking also means your muscles have to do more work in moving your legs fast enough to keep up with the speed and distance you are covering meaning you burn more calories. So changing your walking pace would help. 5) And the most important is to stick with the above. These tips dont require you to change your current lifestyle a lot, theyre very easy to follow and adhere to. When next youre doing the shopping, pick up bottled water rather than soda or concentrated fruit juice or some other nasty drink thats not water. Youll soon adjust to the sweet natural soothing taste that water has and get hooked. I know I am. And no matter how lazy youre feeling that Monday morning, drive to the farthest parking spot without even thinking about it, then you can curse yourself (and maybe me) as much as you want whilst walking down to the office, the most important think is youve burned more calories. And never ever say to yourself ‘Ive been good this week, I deserve a treat’ as an excuse for a nasty bar of chocolate or pack of crisps, you deserve better than that, treat yourself to a nice piece of banana instead. Good Luck Tony Martin is an author based in the UK. This and many more Articles can be found at http://www.bylamoarticles.com and dont forget to sign the guestbook whilst youre there. What’s in a Name? Part 3 - Surname Landmarking

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Joseph Yakel For genealogists and family historians, a particularly vexing research problem is the inconsistency with which family names were spelled over the span of many years. These spelling inconsistencies can make it difficult to track down and verify family relationships and/or confirm individuals related to events. Just why does the name keep changing in the first place, and how do you know you are researching the right person when the surname seems to change so frequently? In answer to the initial half of the question, first, middle and last names were all subject to frequent misspelling, depending on who was doing the writing when your ancestors’ documents were originally penned. The reasons for these errors varied, but included: lack of concern for accuracy by the writer or subject person; grammatical inability of the writer; difficulty understanding the given name (perhaps the writer was of a different nationality, and did not recognize the subject persons spoken words - a common error with census enumerators); simple copycat errors (the writer saw, and repeated previous misspelled references). To the second part of the question of how one knows they are on the right track researching an individual, one way to consistently verify the identity of the subject person is through a process I call surname “landmarking”. Landmarking fixes a known name to a known time and a known place, and perhaps a known occupation, thereby establishing a consistent trail to confirm the individuals’ or family’s identity. To be successful with this technique, I recommend researching records chronologically, year-by-year, to better evaluate the information as it is discovered. There are numerous public records suitable for the landmarking process, but the ones referred to herein are the State and Federal Censuses, which were conducted at 5-year intervals between one another, City Directories and Tax Rolls, which were published annually, and Property Indentures. Using my own family and the aforementioned records, I will use the landmarking process to depict the sequence of individual verification over a 12-year period. My YAKEL surname is actually an Americanized variant on the original Rheinish German name. The spelling has changed over 50 times (though the pronunciation has changed very little) since the family left Europe in 1847 and arrived in America. The earliest known German references, circa 1650, spelled the surname as JCKEL and/or JECKEL. In the following example, using landmarking, I tied my great-great grandfathers family together by address and occupation, while, at the same time, showing 14 name variations between 1849 and 1860. The sequence follows: 1849 City Directory John YAGLE, 106 Nucella St., Laborer 1850 Federal Census John JACKALL, 106 Nucella St., Moulder 1850 City Directory John YAGLE, 106 Nucella St., Laborer 1850 Property Indenture John JEKEL, 150 Franklin St. 1851 City Directory John JEKEL, 150 Franklin St. 1851 Tax Roll John YEAKLE, 150 Franklin St. 1852 City Directory John JEKEL, 150 Franklin St. 1853 City Directory John YAGLES, 150 Franklin St. 1853 Tax Roll John YEOKLE, 150 Franklin St. 1854 City Directory John YAGER, 150 Franklin St. 1854 Tax Roll John YORKLE, 150 Franklin St. * In late 1854, the family also purchased a large farm in East Greenbush, while keeping the city property in Albany * 1854 Property Indenture John JEKEL, East Greenbush, Farmer 1855 State Census John YAKEL, East Greenbush, Farmer 1855 Tax Roll John YORKEL, 150 Franklin St. 1856 City Directory John YAGLE, 150 Franklin St., Moulder 1857 City Directory John YAGLE, 150 Franklin St., Moulder 1857 Tax Roll John YORKEL, 150 Franklin St. 1858 City Directory John YEAGLE, 150 Franklin St., Moulder 1858 Tax Roll John YORKLE, 150 Franklin St. 1859 City Directory John JAKEL, 150 Franklin St., Farmer 1859 Tax Roll John YORKEL, 150 Franklin St. 1860 Federal Census John YAGEL, 150 Franklin St., Laborer 1860 Tax Roll John YORKELL, 150 Franklin St. In addition to the records described in this example, there are other documents that further substantiate and landmark this family over the given time period. However, for demonstrative purposes, the example research adequately shows how the landmarking process is successfully used to verify individual and family relationships. In conclusion, armed with the knowledge that inconsistent name patterns can and will be dispersed among your family tree, you can successfully overcome this potential problem by methodically applying the surname landmarking technique to your research work. Best of luck as you trace your history! This is the third article, “Surname Landmarking”, in the 3-part series, “What’s in a Name?” by Joseph Yakel. Five Everyday Things That Cost Too Much -And What To Use Instead

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Jane Wangersky Five-dollar greeting cards. Huge packages of paper napkins that vanish in a matter of days. The little, everyday things can soak up so much of our money. Where does it end? With you. Refuse to pay too much for these common items: Greeting cards make your own, of course. Its not just for school kids making construction paper cards for Mothers Day. There are tons of sites with free, printable greeting cards. If you have any talent for drawing, or just using rubber stamps and glitter, put it to work. Notepads the kind you always need by the phone. Save sheets of paper with one unused side. Cut or tear a few of them into quarters and staple these together into a pad. Paper napkins handier than cloth ones, but still too expensive. Try this: cut a cheap tablecloth (felt on one side, plastic on the other) into napkin-sized pieces. No need to hem! The plastic side keeps spills off your lap, the felt side is good for wiping your mouth, and theyre washable. Just remember to dry them on the line instead of in the dryer. Laundry detergent the package usually tells you to use more than you really need. (Wonder why.) Put in no more than half the amount suggested then see if you can get away with even less. It helps if you throw in one of your used cleaning rags, after its soaked up a lot of cleaning fluid. (You do use cleaning rags, dont you, not paper towels?) Sliced lunch meat companies slap an incredible markup on meat theyve bothered to slice and package in small amounts. Get a slicing machine and make your own. If all this is too much to remember, write it down on one of your homemade notepads. Jane Wangersky is the author of In Small Packages: Gifts You Can Mail at Canada’s Lowest Postal Rates. How to Make A Character Cake When You Have No Instructions

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Jewel Goodwin I have a few books with glossy pictures of cool cakes, including step by step instructions and templates for decorating the cake. Failing that, I have been able to track down several cake templates for free on line. However, recently I have hit a road block when it comes to making character cakes: there are generally no templates or instructions to be found for the latest, greatest, hippest character. Not wanting to disappoint my fans, I found a way to create a cake template. It takes a small amount of computer knowledge and a bit of patience but if you are making character cakes already, you likely have patience and enthusiasm for these kinds of things. The first step is to locate a simple cartoon of the character. Avoid cartoons with lots of details or background image. You want there to be enough detail to make the character recognizable, but not too much that its going to be confusing when you enlarge the image. You can find this image in a colouring book, but you will need to scan it. Alternatively, try an online search for the character and see what you can find from there. The next step is to decide what size of cake you are working with. Now, you need to blow up the cartoon image that you are working with to fit the dimensions of the cake. If you are doing this digitally, you can do it in a Word file. Just set the size of the page to the dimensions of the cake, then paste the image in (NB there are probably various graphics programs you can do this in as well, that I dont know about.) If you are working Low-Fidelity, you can take your image to the local photocopier and resize it. Now, print out your image! Lay your image on your cooled cake, and use toothpicks to poke through the image and transfer the design onto the cake. Cut around the sides, and then decorate to your hearts content! A small decorating tip: I have found that using fruit roll ups and fruit strings works wonders in place of piping in icing its fast, it looks cool, and hey, its almost healthy ;) Jewel Goodwin is a mother of two and an avid crafter. A Guide to Reiki Hand Positions

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By Lynn Reynolds Reiki practitioners use hand positions to assist them in guiding energy through the bodys channels. Although certain hand positions are taught to Reiki practitioners, these positions are only a guideline. There is not one set, correct way to do Reiki. Rather, each person adds their own experience and intuition into the process. The series of hand positions taught are spaced throughout the clients body so as to provide good coverage. Covering all parts of the body evenly will assure that the client will get the best treatment and encourage the energy to flow throughout. Some practitioners will sweep their hands over the front and back of the body looking for hot spots which need healing and focus on this area. The hand positions can be used either touching the body, holding the hands over the body, or over the clients hands which are then guided by the Reiki practitioner. Some of the hand placements are near private areas, so be sure to indicate that to the client beforehand. Three common hand positions are listed below. For these positions, have the client lie down. 1. Stand behind the client and place your hands gently over your clients eyes. Keep your palms down and your fingers pointing toward the clients toes. Take special care to not squeeze the nose. 2. Place your hands around the temples. 3. Cradle the head with your hands. Gently rock the head to one side, slide your hand underneath, and then repeat to the other side. Make sure it is centered on both hands. These positions and more are taught in classes, books, and videos on the subject. None of the positions are complicated and they are ideal for a beginning learner. You have the power to attune yourself to this incredible energy. To learn how, visit here. Cliff Kuhn M.D.’s Fun Commandments Unlock Humor’s Amazingly Powerful Natural Medicine

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Cliff Kuhn, M.D. My Fun Commandments are more relevant today than ever before because I continue to explore and enlarge their scope and impact. They are your wellspring for finding freedom from your pain and illness, navigating swiftly through grief and change, having relationships better than you ever dreamed, ridding yourself of your bad habits once and for all, finding and loving a job of your dreams, and so much more. We only use about 10% of our brain, right? For hundreds of years we’ve been told this by psychologists and anthropologists, with the implication that we could unlock unbelievable potential if we could figure out how to use the other 90%. Telekinesis, time travel, and mutant powers await us! But did you know that we’re already using as much of our brain as we ever will? I’ll tell you why later… Are you still waiting for the job of your dreams? Interested in falling in love with the perfect partner? Want to take changes and transitions in stride? Would you like to attract the attention of people who find you mysteriously irresistible? What about being able to walk into any social or professional setting with supreme self-confidence? What if you could lose weight and keep it off or quit smoking for good? How would you like to live a life practically free from the misery of pain and illness? My Fun Commandments are your solution. How My Fun Commandments Were Created Over two decades ago, I began creating the Fun Commandments from my work with terminally and chronically ill patients. These patients taught and inspired me to use the incredibly powerful natural medicine of humor both in their treatment and also in my own life. As my patient’s lives blossomed under the care of humor’s natural medicine, so too did mine…because I actually needed humor’s medicine as much, or more, than my patients. I had a great family, a wonderful home, lots of expensive “toys,” and a brilliant career as a psychiatrist. But by the late 1970’s I realized that I wasn’t doing well at all. I had learned to be funny, but I didn’t know how to have fun. I was experiencing pleasure, but I wasn’t celebrating life. I could do good things, but I wasn’t free to enjoy my accomplishments. Does this sound even remotely familiar to you? In contrast, I realized that many of my patients were doing fine compared to me. They were able to have fun even in the midst of the pain, uncertainty, and fear that accompanied their diagnoses. So, as they urged me to use the natural medicine of humor to change my own life, my patients also convinced me to write down my findings so they could be shared widely. The results of those initial writings were christened the Fun Commandments and served as the foundation for my Fun Factor prescription, a groundbreaking masterpiece which teaches you, step by step, how to employ the amazing power of humor to supercharge every area of your life. My current Fun Factor prescription is the culmination of decades of subsequent research, practice, study, and application of my Fun Commandments with my patients. I actually went on a national tour as a stand-up comedian to do research! (I hope you didn’t have to sit through any of my performances) I continue to work (and play) with world famous humor practitioners like Mr. Jerry Lewis, whom I have counted as a colleague, friend, and admirer for over a decade! If you combine all the amazing lengths I have gone to study humor’s healing effects with my national stature as a Professor and former Associate Chairman of the University of Louisville School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry, you quickly realize that I am the only doctor in the world with the qualifications and expertise to teach you about my Fun Commandments and Fun Factor prescription. My Fun Commandments Are Designed to Change Your Life My Fun Factor prescription is your source for finding freedom from your pain and illness, navigating swiftly through grief and change, having relationships better than you ever dreamed, ridding yourself of your bad habits once and for all, finding and loving a job of your dreams, and so much more. But it all started with my Fun Commandments and, to this day, my Fun Factor prescription is still centered around these dynamic principles. This article introduces you to my Fun Commandments and “primes your pump” for the day you are ready to step into a life you never dreamed possible for yourself - the day you start using my Fun Factor prescription! We all know about humor’s value, especially in recreational settings, and most people agree that laughter is beneficial. If you are part of this majority, you are to be applauded because you are already more than halfway towards turbo-charging your life with the natural medicine of humor. As you read my Fun Commandments and begin to practice them in your life, you will start to see that most of us have barely scratched the surface of humor’s potential to supercharge our personal and professional lives. If you maintain an open mind and are willing to learn, no matter how successful you are now, my Fun Factor prescription and, of course, the Fun Commandments which form its foundation will lower your stress levels by as much as 40%, make profoundly positive changes in your relationships, and increase your job satisfaction by up to 55%. My Fun Commandments are more relevant today than ever before because I continue to explore and enlarge their scope and impact. In fact, two of the Fun Commandments you’re about to read were added within the past year. You can rest assured that, until you invest in my Fun Factor prescription, my Fun Commandments will provide you with a foundation for amazing energy, growth, and positive change - as they have done for hundreds of my patients, family members, and friends. Dr. Kuhn’s Fun Commandments 1. Always Go the Extra Smile Of all my Fun Commandments, this one provides you with the most energy. It is the one strategy most effective for increasing the fun in your life. Smiling is a way to open your heart and at the same time touch the hearts of others. We have measured decreased stress, improved immunity, increased tolerance for pain and frustration, and higher levels of creativity - even from a “fake” smile! 2. Tell the Truth Of all my Fun Commandments, this one helps you keep an inventory of yourself. Our humor natures are open windows to the truth; therefore, if you want your sense of humor to be strong and available, you must make the effort to be true to yourself. This Commandment promotes trust in yourself and keeps you on a steady, forward pace since you will be much more cognizant of what is working in your life and what isn’t. 3. Laugh With Yourself First Of all my Fun Commandments, this one helps you take yourself less seriously. When you make a mistake, laughing with yourself keeps you from beating up on yourself. It is a boost to your self-esteem because it is a vote of confidence in yourself. This Commandment sends a clear message to you that you are okay. You know that your foibles do not form links in an unbreakable chain, because you are learning from them and becoming more effective. 4. Welcome Your Mistakes Of all my Fun Commandments, this one allows you to stop being so hard on yourself. Jerry Lewis once told me that he is always nervous before he goes on stage, but “the trick is to harness the fear and make it your ally.” In other words, don’t be afraid of your mistakes - welcome them! In fact, your mistakes can be so helpful to you that I suggest making them on purpose. You’re going to make mistakes anyway. Making them on purpose helps you turn your fear into fun. 5. Listen Very Carefully Of all my Fun Commandments, this one keeps you from being too self-centered. Successful comedians will tell you that the capacity to listen is their number one creative tool. Yet listening is an often overlooked and under taught skill and most of us are very poor at it, preferring to form our next phrases rather than hear what is being said to us. To really listen we must turn the volume down on our own internal chatter and this allows us to communicate from our hearts rather than our heads. 6. Go Frequently Of all my Fun Commandments, this one provides you with serenity. If you’ve ever learned to juggle you quickly discovered that we all have a tendency to hold on to objects for too long. The same phenomenon occurs in life and, since we are all jugglers - juggling our family, our work, our community responsibilities, and our own care, letting go is a vital skill that will prevent stress and give peace of mind. 7. Challenge Your Assumptions Of all my Fun Commandments, this one keeps you open minded and learning. It is also an effective way to bring humor into your life. We make assumptions because it saves us time and energy in our busy lives, but assumptions can keep us from growing and changing if we are not capable or willing to see new perspectives. Get in the habit of seeing things around you in a different way and your sense of humor will become supercharged. 8. Stay Focused, Yet Flexible Of all my Fun Commandments, this one eases you through changes and transitions. This strategy is about keeping your priorities clear, but keeping your options open. You can’t help but become an inspired opportunist when you develop a trait for seeing the victories inherent in what you used to call defeats. As you’ll come to find out, this trait is shared by all successful people. 9. Act and Interact with People Of all my Fun Commandments, this one gives you a constant and reliable source of amusement. Reaching out and touching someone is often a learned skill, but it pays big dividends. Realize that taking chances means you will make mistakes, but they will happen less often if you are willing to learn from them. You’ll also find that a failed action is much more valuable to your health and success than a failure to act. 10. Practice Wanting What You Have, Rather Than Getting What You Want Of all my Fun Commandments, this one helps you attract, and hold on to, abundance. One of the great paradoxes of life is that, as long as you try to fill your inner void with things outside yourself, your void only gets bigger. Learning to love what we have and who we are - right now - opens us up to receive so much more, because we want things for the right reason. We’re no longer trying to “fix” ourselves. 11. Choose to Motivate Yourself With Fun Rather Than Fear Of all my Fun Commandments, this one teaches you how to set goals and achieve them. You really only have the choices of fun or fear when it comes to motivation and they both work well. The problem, however, with choosing fear is that it is impossible to sustain the motivation without harming ourselves through burn-out and stress. Choosing fun to motivate ourselves is the simple difference of striving toward positive goals, rather than escaping negative ones. 12. Celebrate Everything Of all my Fun Commandments, this one provides you with abundant joy every day. If you make a practice of celebrating events you normally treated as mundane, you will be filled with an energy and spirit that you haven’t felt since childhood. Left to choose between feeling like a jaded pessimist or a naive optimist (of course, I’m using two extremes as examples), why wouldn’t you choose the latter? Either way, your life will still unfold around you - but you will see it as a gift. By the way, researchers doubt that we have much unused area in our brain. It’s true that you might only be using 10% of it at any given time, but that is because your brain is segmented into highly specialized regions and each region is used for specific activities. There are no major unused areas. However, you can still unlock secret, hidden powers…by using my Fun Commandments to change your paradigms and perspectives. I wouldn’t call them “mutant powers,” but you’ll certainly soon enjoy a life others will envy because you will be even more happy, healthy, and successful than you are now. Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong Not Just News

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Jeff Lakie As with just about anything in life, there are many things that can go wrong with plastic surgery. But just as we don’t hear news reports about the millions of planes that have taken off and landed safely, there is not the same attention devoted to the many success stories of cosmetic surgeries as there is to plastic surgery gone wrong. There are risks involved with this type of surgery, as there are in undergoing operations of any kind, but the usual difference is that while no doctor can force a patient to have surgery of any kind - even if it is a life-saving operation to remove a cancerous tumor - plastic surgery is generally a little more elective than the other. And perhaps this is why we seem to delight in hearing about plastic surgery gone wrong. Nowhere is our interest in celebrities as heightened or as vicious as in this arena. While assigning the delight we find in the personal disaster of another human being to jealousy might be overly simplistic, there is doubtlessly a sense here of revelling in the fall of someone we thought - or felt they thought themselves - to be untouchable. It seems that regardless of the expensive doctors they might have access to, the rich and famous are as susceptible to the vagaries of happenstance as the rest of us - sometimes, things simply just go wrong. Plastic surgery has literally been the death of some, and side effects can be life threatening. Even relatively minor mishaps can be unsightly and embarrassing, and plastic surgery gone wrong includes an enormous range of problems, from capsular contraction in breast implants (where the implants harden painfully) to problems with the wound and the slippage of implants inserted in a range of locations, including cheeks, chin, and butt. Surely we wouldn’t wish these accidents on our worst enemies - unless they were in the public eye. So celebrities might have thousands of things we think we want, but they are as subject to the whims of higher powers just as the rest of us are. Above all, we are all human, and plastic surgery gone wrong, regardless of the paycheck of the life it affects, is a painful and upsetting time. Let’s just hope they get well soon. Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Teddy Shabba Men who are rich face different types of challenges when it comes to attracting women. As finding a woman is usually not a challenge but finding one who is not and will not be after his money is.The first thing you must realize is your money will always be a part of who you are. Trying to hide your money when meeting a woman is impossible!Your reality of life and how you view the world is completely different that that of a middle or lower class person. To the trained and experienced eye no matter what you will stick out like a sore thumb. In other words, attempting to hide your wealth from a woman will only attract those women who already know of your wealth. The best of the best gold diggers know who you are even if you think they don’t. The real problem is your belief that when you give a woman your heart you must give her everything else as well. When the truth is when you have a woman’s heart all that other stuff doesn’t matter to her anymore. In your mind, when she has won your heart and you hers, it is then that you will hand her the keys to the world. However, her reality if you truly have her heart will be indifferent to the keys to the world; as her heart will simply be happy with you.In the end, no matter what you should give her that which you expect nothing back in return and keep that which you want.
