Stop Eating Your Heart Out African Americans

April 7th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Shondelle Solomon According to the health profession, statistics show that African Americans have a higher than average risk compared to others of getting heart disease, cancer and other diet-related diseases and dying from them. However, those same health professionals reveal there’s something that African Americans can do to help change that, and the simple solution is to–Eat Right. That doesn’t mean giving up the love of “soul food.” By making the right food choices when cooking “down home-style,” African Americans can reduce the risk of getting those diseases in the first place. Many of the basic dietary guidelines for Americans in general should also be followed by African Americans. These basic guidelines include, but are not limited to: (1) Eating a variety of foods. (2) Maintaining a healthy body weight according to height and gender. (3) Choosing diets low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. (4) Choosing diets with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products. (5) Using sugars and other sweeteners in moderation. (6) Using salt and sodium in moderation. (7) Drinking alcoholic beverages in moderation. The National Cancer Institute estimates that about one-third of all cancer deaths may be related to the foods eaten. Some studies show that diets high in fat and low in fiber may be linked to cancers of the colon, breast, and prostate. These are the leading causes of cancer deaths among African Americans. Choosing diets and meals that are low in fat can reduce these risks while helping to control weight. Losing excess weight helps to lower high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure–two of the major risk factors for heart disease. Nutritionists suggest eating fish more often. It’s relatively low in calories, fat, and saturated fat. It’s also a good source of high-quality protein and vitamins and minerals. A simple way of getting the most healthful benefits of fish is to oven bake it–rather than frying. This does not mean that meats should not continue to be part of a healthy diet. Meat is very much a part of lean cooking. Just remember to choose lean cuts of meat, cut all visible fat from meat before cooking. Cook meats in ways that reduce, rather than add fat–such as baking, simmering, roasting, broiling, grilling, braising, microwaving, or even stir-frying in nonstick skillets. They’ll be just as juicy and tender as fatter, fried meats–but they’ll be healthier for you and your family. To remove fats from homemade broths, soups, and stews–prepare the food ahead and chill it. Before reheating, lift off the hardened fat formed at the surface. If you don’t have time to chill the food, float a few ice cubes on the surface of the warm liquid to harden the fat. Then, remove the fat and discard. Other keys to “down home” healthy cooking are: (1) prepare poultry with skin removed (2) Use low-fat or nonfat/skim milk (3) Use low-fat or part skim milk cheeses (4) Use evaporated skim milk (5) Use nonfat or low-fat dressing, yogurt or mayonnaise (6) Use mustard more often (7) Use low sodium bouillon and broths (8) Eat fruits and vegetables without added fat When it comes to fiber, or roughage… as it was called back in the day–grains and beans are some of the best sources of fiber. Studies show that Americans in general don’t eat much fiber. Research shows that populations that eat fiber rich foods have lower rates of colon cancer. This is why health professionals recommend that people eat twice as much fiber than they normally do. So, put away the deep fat fryers and make more use of steamers, ovens, microwaves, and grills. You will discover some intense new flavors to all your main dishes that are going to make a big difference to your health. Stop eating your heart out African Americans! Why Falling in Love is Not So Easy!

April 6th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Elaine Sihera What are the ingredients that make the ultimate romantic experience possible? What are some folks missing which prevent them from actually reaching that highly-desired goal at any time in their lives? Well, it could be four crucial things, actually: 1. Self-Love 2. Expressiveness 3. Emotional Openness 4. Faith in the Future Self-Love The most important factor when we are hoping to fall in love is self-love. If we need someone to ‘complete’ our life instead of to enhance it, someone to ‘make’ us happy, instead of sharing our happiness or someone to make us feel good instead of sharing our joy, we have a problem with self-love. In fact, a lack of self-love is the biggest cause of personal problems in our life because too many people readily carry that burden. They do not like themself and dislike certain key aspects of their bodies, but then, paradoxically, expect others to like what they reject!! That is not possible. We can only truly love when we ourselves have love because the greatest love is not waiting outside to find us. It actually lies dormant inside of us, yearning to be discovered and nurtured. Everything else is just the icing on the cake, but YOU are that cake! And a delicious one too. When that fact is fully realised, acknowledged and accepted, you are well on the road to giving love and loving another unconditionally. Above all, you will find it really easy to fall in love with all the fanfare and starlight you dream of. But loving the self is not so easy to do when we have had little reinforcement of our worth since childhood, or we get little affirmation from work, home or loved ones, and if we are always taken for granted or ignored. We then tend to feel unwanted, unappreciated and invisible. If we have also been hurt a number of times, it reinforces all those unsavoury experiences. Difficult to love that little self when no one else seems to love it! But self-love is the most important thing we have to work for in our lives, especially if we wish to get rid of unnecessary anxieties, to grow with confidence in who we are, to lead independent lives without clinging to another and to feel worthy of the life we have. Self-love comes from two things, above all: knowing who you are and knowing what you want, and making sure they stand out clearly to everyone you meet. Those who are seeking what you have to give will be joyful while making you even happier. It also means that you will only attract people who love those traits about you. The others will stay away, which dramatically cuts down the time-wasting in trying to select suitable partners. It makes the chance of you falling in love much higher and you won’t ever have to apologise for who you are and wish to be. Moreover, if you do not know what you want in your life, you won’t be able to recognise it when you see it. You have to be sure of it to know it! So, the first lesson in both confidence and setting the scene for falling in love is to BE who you are, LOVE who you are and don’t worry about who might not respond positively because those who like what they see will flock to you. Moreover, when we merely try to please others, we give mixed messages, we go against what we value and end up pleasing no one, least of all ourselves! Expressiveness Many of us find it difficult to be expressive, to communicate easily, to say how we really feel, to express what might be hurting us or to give life to those cherished dreams. But being expressive is a key part of falling in love. Through communication, your partner knows what you desire, what makes you happy, what you are enjoying about the contact, how you are feeling and what you really like about them too. It cannot be taken for granted or merely implied. Falling in love means you want to shout your feelings from the roof tops and do just that! A lack of expressiveness comes through low confidence and a desire to please - mainly for approval. We tend to feel we do not merit being heard or that what we have to say is not that important enough for others so we keep it repressed while we miss opportunities for enjoyable activities. If we have been hurt, expression then becomes a form of repressed anger and resentment instead of love. This attitude also tends to carry over into our loving. We become mean with praise and appreciation, and seldom affirm our partners, yet yearn for that reinforcement ourselves, even feeling peeved when we don’t get it. For example, how often, as women, do we want to hear that we look great when we are dressed or on a date, yet how regularly do we reciprocate in kind? We are likely to believe that any praise of our partners is not deserved. And why not? Is a relationship for punishment and negativity? Most people who lack confidence depend on others to validate them, to affirm that they are worthy. They are unlikely to believe it themselves, so they deny expression and key communication in order to either avoid ’saying the wrong thing’, or ‘upsetting anyone’. They hope that by not saying anything they will win people over and make a better impression, but it often has the opposite effect of robbing that person of credibility and impact. In fact, not expressing our honest thoughts merely confirms perceptions, gives the wrong impressions and creates misunderstandings. Emotional Openness Having passionate and wonderful love affairs in a heart-stopping way contains deep affection which comes through unconditional expressiveness and emotional openness. Yet, when we are hurt (which is a fact of life, nothing unusual!) we tend to retreat inwards, becoming wary of any future liaison. We lock down the emotional hatches while we grow cold and detached, more vulnerable, victim-like and introspective. We find excuses not to be involved or to fall for someone, yet that is the time to put the experience squarely behind you, learn to from it and move on as quickly as possible. Not to dwell on it in a powerless state of resentment. Otherwise, you will become more angry and develop a scapegoat mentality, one which denies everyone else you meet their individuality as you gradually blame them by proxy. If you feel vulnerable and powerless after any hurt, resist it. Vulnerability comes through fear - a fear of the future, the inability to accept the uniqueness of others and letting them prove themselves to us. And wherever there is undue fear there is enforced coldness, detachment and a lack of enjoyment. Yet, falling in love has warmth and love at its core. We cannot fall in love without emotions, and open ones too. We have to be prepared to GIVE unconditionally in order to feel those wonderful vibes. Anything else will be luke-warm. If we are grudging in our emotions, the communication will falter or be superficial, and we really won’t get what we seek. Any fear means we cannot be expressive, we are not able to trust, we cannot let go and we cannot enjoy because we are concentrating so much upon avoiding the possible hurt, we completely miss the pleasure that comes BEFORE any hurt, while turning our fears into self-fulfilling prophecies! In the end, you might not get hurt, as you jealously guard that vulnerability, but you will not have much pleasure either and remain fossilised in the same spot, going nowhere, doing nothing new while becoming increasingly unattractive in the process. Faith in the Future Faith in the future is crucial for new relationships. We have to resist controlling every movement in order to be surprised by what life might have in store for us. People who feel ‘vulnerable’, who feel powerless, who are always worrying about what they might ‘lose’ and how they might be viewed and treated, find it hard to be expressive, trusting and passionate because they have to control everything to feel good. They tend to resist the future, immediate and long-term, in case they are hurt again. Having little faith in their future, they tend to take more than they give, to be cynical of the motives of others. They are also likely to fear commitment and so will seldom experience the joy of falling in love through their inability to let go and live their life spontaneously. Being so busy trying to control its direction, they simply rob their life of its emotion, joy and spontaneity. The best way to approach any relationship is to be prepared for both pleasure and pain. The two are crucial sides of the same coin and you cannot have one without the other. People who fear pain live in an unrealistic world of feckless emptiness and fear, seeking only pleasure without the costs or consequences. But there is ALWAYS a price to pay in life for whatever we have, whether good or bad, that’s Nature’s way of establishing balance, and the more we accept that death is as much an integral part of life as rebirth, the more happiness we will find. There is always great enjoyment when you simply accept the moment AS IT IS, no matter how long it lasts. There is ALWAYS a better moment round the corner, believe me, so it is useless fretting over this one. For many women (and a lot of men too) it is insecurity and a lack of self-love which prevent them from really enjoying their lives, so they burden every new partner and date with their unrealistic anxieties and expectations in their search for perfection. They carry around their baggage of hurt expecting to be hurt again and, surprise, surprise, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Simply love yourself and be warm, kind and compassionate to the next person you meet. It really pays dividends. Express yourself freely and affirm others at every opportunity. Be open with your emotions and less controlling of yourself and others. That allows for some great surprises. Be easier on yourself by reducing your fears and welcoming love into your life. Falling in love will not only be easy, it will also be a real cinch because you would have already laid the crucial groundwork for attracting that ideal partner! That Extra Mile

April 5th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Vishii Rita Krocha It’s funny. People keep coming and going. Sometimes without leaving a trace. Somehow you don’t want to look for them once they are gone. You come across strangers. And at one instance of meeting them, you already feel something connected with those people. And fate lets you meet again and again. Or maybe you create chances for yourselves because sometimes it takes only a moment of real observation to discover if they are for keeps. We go about befriending people all our lives. At least it seems so. There’s no reason why one wouldn’t. Life wouldn’t be merely complete without having companions to share some of the nicest things in life with. Even to encourage each other when you stumble and fall sometimes. There’s just too many things friends do together that it feels odd to imagine a life without them. Yet, somehow, it’s so apt to write about them because friendship is life’s sweetest gift. Lifelong you would need them. They are like an anchor that always makes sure you are safe. Some of us have come a long way sticking around with the same friends, but never getting tired of being together. Even if it meant you see each other everyday. There are those who have crossed our way and from the middle of nowhere, you find a relation to build upon. Those people may not be the ones whom we have known since childhood. But along the way, the ones you pick and you softly tell yourself that no matter what, you won’t just leave them.Whichever way our friends came about to be in our lives, the journey is all about sharing good times and ugly moments together, celebrating moments and crossing many roads that are not always safe but in the end managing to come out of it. Amazingly, you share a mutual bond and it grows stronger and stronger like it would never break. You hold on to them because without asking, they are there for you. Without asking, they make your life more bearable. Without asking, they take every given opportunity to tell you that you are special to them. Even give you nice surprises and make your day. Without asking, they will always walk beside you. Marking friendship day is just another sign that the world over need friends to get through life and that they are just not some people who get us out from many troubles but that we share life together. Whether reminded or not, we all value our friends. It’s indeed an occassion to celebrate. Indeed a day we should take time out to tell our dear friends that without them, we would probably not be anywhere at all. And yes, tell them, you’ll always love them for being the way they are. And for making your life a happier and an easier ride. Just assure them one more time that no matter what, you’ll always walk the extra mile together. In my twenties ~ that wavy age where times seem hardest, yet very adventurous too. You are not too young niether old. Deciding phases, getting serious kind of phase where Life brings you a lot of tides to ride. But i love every moment of it. I love the lovely times i can count on, even the ugliest of situations. They make me a better person. With dreams in my pocket, seeing them taking buds am gonna do all i can let them take their flight. Someday i hope to see them flowered and be happy enough that for once i did something worth celebrating. And that’s gonna be Life. M celebrating every moment of it. I live in India, in its Capital City. I write for a weekly column for a Newspaper. I love doing it all. I love writing. I love my home town. It’s a hilly place. I wish to make a difference in my life’s journey. 10 Tips for Building Your Expert Status

April 2nd, 2008 by geniawillison

By Rachna Jain One of the best ways to separate your business from the others is to position yourself as an expert. Experts charge more, work less, and are highly regarded. Experts regularly experience an inflow of interesting opportunities. They attract business easily and regularly. Assuming that you do, indeed, possess expertise in your chosen field…what are some ways to showcase this expertise so others see you as an expert, too? 1) Build an expertise focused website. Ideally, you will have focused your expertise in one particular niche. Build a website to showcase your expertise in this niche. Include client lists, press releases, and demonstrations of you speaking or teaching on your topic. 2) Publish a book (or at least some articles!) Even in this age of lightning fast e-publishing, there still exists some recognition and esteem for authors of published books. It doesnt matter if you self publish, publish on demand, or go the traditional publishing route, there is almost instant credibility and recognition when people say, Oh, she or he wrote a book on it. If you cant get yourself to write a book on it, at least write some articles and distribute them regularly. 3) Build a focused newsletter around your expertise. You may already have a newsletter, but is it focused around your expertise? If not, it might be time for some repositioning. When you do this, youll find that your newsletters actually get easier to write, because its always easier to drill down into one topic than to develop multiple new ones. Also, this focused newsletter can be a great hand-out for prospective clients, and can be a way of articulating your expert position on relevant trends in your field. 4) Seek publicity regularly. This may be in the form of writing effective press releases or being quoted in industry journals or magazines. Just find some way of regularly getting your name and expertise mentioned in print. There are many resources on how to write effective press releases. Aim to send out at least one press release per quarter or to attain two magazine or journal mentions each month. 5) Build a file of successful case studies. Most people will have two questions when they learn of you. One: can you help? and two: how can you help? Well-written case studies help answer both these questions as they build your credibility. We are all, generally, more likely to believe that something will help us if its helped other people who are just like us. A well developed case study file can shorten your sales process. 6) Teach workshops or seminars. A fast way to build your expert status is to teach on your topic. This can be done in person, or on the phone. When you teach on a topic, you are almost automatically seen as an expert on the topic. Plus, teaching classes or workshops can be another way to meet more people, add to your contact list, and develop another revenue stream, all at the same time. 7) Present on your topic. Offer yourself to relevant groups and associations as a guest expert, panelist, or conference speaker. Use these speaking opportunities to refine your knowledge, polish your presentation, and to build areas for possible lateralization. Public speaking also offers you another way to build your contact list and gain recognition at the same time. 8) Hang out with other experts. If you spend time with other experts, you will, by association, be seen as more of an expert. If you belong to an association or professional group, make contact with the leaders of this group. By spending time with the leaders in your field, you will be more easily seen as one of them. 9) Refer to yourself as an expert. For some, this might be more difficult than it seems. Expert status is not just given, it must also be claimed. If you are an expert at what you do, there is absolutely nothing wrong with identifying yourself as one. If youre not, do what it takes to become one. Authenticity and integrity are powerfully effective marketing tools. 10) Commit to regular actions to build your expert status. As you build your expert status, you will find the flow of opportunities come faster and more easily. When this happens, continue to take regular actions to keep building your expert status. Once gained, expert status must be maintained. Try these strategies to build your expert status. Your business (and bank account) will benefit. Dr. Rachna D. Counting Down to Christmas and the Birth of the SUN - Oops I mean SON

March 31st, 2008 by geniawillison

By Dennis Diehl Those familiar with the Worldwide Church of God know that after many years of observing what most would call “Jewish Holidays” but with Christian significance, the Church has now switched to the more generically acceptable Christian holidays, such as Easter and Christmas. In the past, these Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice holidays were replaced by the recognition of Passover over Easter in the Spring and the Festival of Tabernacles in the Fall over Christmas. While no religious holy day springs from a vacuum, and the Jewish Holy Days, also sprang from the pagan agricultural holidays that preceded them, I wonder if the Worldwide Church of God, and all Christians would be intrigued and challenged to realize just exactly which “Son” was being born on Christmas and why? Plainly put, the story of Jesus’ one year ministry as described in Mark, Matthew and Luke, is an astrological allegory of the journey the literal SUN takes through the twelve signs of the Zodiac in one year. The journey of the SON/SUN starts at the birth of the SUN and SON in December, brought forth by a virgin of all things, and ends just before Christmas on December 22-24, the time the SUN appears to be “in the grave” prior to being born again on the 25th by moving ever so slightly north again and heading towards spring. Jesus also spent his three days in the grave as we recall. First of all why would I say that the Virgin brings forth the SUN and the Virgin bringing forth the literal SON of God later in print was not the original story? Because the older phenomenon is the sky story noticed long before it was made literal for the masses. On Christmas day, in particular 2000 years ago when during Jesus time, the Sign of Aries the Lamb was coming to an end, signified by the crucifixion of the Lamb in the Spring, the sky on Christmas morning showed an interesting sight. Just before sunrise, the SUN sits on the horizon about to be “born.” At the zenith, the high point in the sky, at that moment, is the zodiacal constellation of Virgo, the Virgin who is MOST High, MOST Blessed, at that moment the SUN is born. Truly, and anciently, “and the virgin shall bring for the SUN.” The prophecy says that “they shall call his (THE SON) name, Immanuel, which means “God with us.” But the literal SON Jesus was never called Immanuel. However, the real SUN, as SUN of GOD is always Immanuel, always with us. The Bible even says of “God” that His power is from the rising of the sun until the going down there of.” No one thinks this through. God’s power is only good during the day is what this is saying. God’s power ends at sundown according to this scripture. Evidently this SUN GOD has not power after sunset, which of course is the real SUN and not the literalized GOD or SON of GOD. Malachi tells us that the Messiah, but calling him the SUN, “shall arise with healing in his wings.” The wings of the sun are the rays that appear to jet out due to the way humans see the sun when they try to look at it. One of the great symbols of Egypt is the sun disc with great bird wings coming out left and right. It’s an old symbol of how the sun looks to humans. Let’s move on a bit past the birth of the SUN/Son on Christmas morning. The Gospels say that Jesus was “about 30 years old” when he began his ministry. The SUN/SON was born in December in the sign of Capricorn back then which is the Goat, and may account for some of the Nativity scene animals that were later made literally true in the story. Each House of the Zodiac takes up approximately 30 degrees of the sky (30×12=360). So the SUN also is about 30 when it enters the next sign of the Zodiac in January, which just happens to be the same PERSON Jesus the SON visited when he began his ministry! This would be Aquarius, the Waterman for the SUN but John the Baptizer for Jesus the SON. Same story. One in the sky, one made literal on earth. Same Story! Both SUN and SON are baptized by the Waterman during this month and both increase, that is keep moving towards Spring for the SUN or into his ministry for the SON. Aquarius and John, the Watermen on the other hand, must decrease and while one sets, the other is decapitated. It is no coincidence that when Aquarius appears to rise again six months later at dawn instead of sink at sunset, the head comes up first opposite Leo the Lion, sign of Herod who had him murdered literally. Aquarius, in the morning sunrise looks beheaded by Leo who is going down. Could this be why later in Jesus ministry Herod thinks that John the Baptist is coming back from the dead or had risen, because Aquarius is rising again after going down six months earlier? Is this a heavenly astro-theological tale made literally true? Also, at sunrise and prior to Christmas day, the three stars in the belt of Orion the Hunter rose vertically and followed the sun across the sky all day, only to loose it in sunset. Every winter morning this scene would progress with the three “Magi” rising higher and earlier each day chasing the SUN/SON. When the story was literalized, it lost it’s common sense. In the literal story we find the Magi saying, “We have seen his star in the east ….” They then proceed to follow it West with it ending up turning south and hovering right over the place where Jesus was. It would be a dumb thing to see a star looking east, watch it go over head in time and then turn west to follow it to Jerusalem. You’d play this game ever night for awhile. First head east, then look up, then turn and head west. I doubt this was the plan of the Magi who could not have been that stupid. However, when not taken literally we have the three stars, neatly aligned in Orion,s Belt rising like hikers in the east and heading west following the SUN or SON that has to be in the West to find. Great astro-theology but a bit funky when made literally true. It might explain why Herod could not see the same Star and had to ask for the Magi to find Jesus for him. It was taking place in the sky, not the palace. A good Gnostic would say “of course, this is where the story comes from.” Well shortly after Aquarius and John slip off the scene and Jesus goes on his way, he goes immediately into the wilderness to be tempted not to be all he can be by Satan. This would be the SUN, rising from Winter and heading to Spring and then being the Most High at the Summer Solstice, but still weak as it is early in the game. Jesus might still be too young, too weak to continue, so Satan, i.e. Darkness tempts him to be not be Jesus the SON or SUN. The darkness of Winter does not want to go and wants to prevent the SUN/SON from en-lightening the world, or as we might say, Satan does not wish Jesus the SON to take away the sins (darkness) of the world. Darkness in the human psyche is the world of evil and fear…the world of Satan. Jesus as the SON, just like the SUN might just overcome the darkness of winter and Satan if he can’t be disuaded at this weak time of his cycle. But alas, you can’t stop the seasons, so Jesus and the SUN go to Spring and Easter, which is the time when the SUN has the same strength as the dark, when day and night are Equi-nox or Equal Nights. It’s Easter because the SUN rises due east and gives SON worshippers a direction in which to pray on Easter morning. Satan is well on the way to being defeated with the SUN/SON being crucified literally in Aries the Lamb, (April-Easter) which Jesus was also called and the SUN in Aries the Lamb as sign of the Zodiac. For the SUN the crucifixion takes place where the Celestial Equator crosses the Ecliptic and the Sun sits right on the intersection of it at Easter, and for Jesus it happens, same time in Jerusalem, literally. It is not coincidence that the Age of Aries the Lamb, which ended with the SUN moving into PICES due to the progression of the equinox every 2190 years or so, around the time of Jesus coincides with the death of the Lamb of God, the Son, Jesus. It is a symbol. “Behold, I am with you, even unto the end of the age,” said Jesus. This was not the end of the world as some think, but the Lamb Jesus would be with them until the end of the astrological age of Aries and then Pices the Fish would begin. It is also no coincidence that the symbol for the SON/SUN’s Church is the fish, nor that in the age of Pices Christians were to be “fishers of men.” The fishing motif in the Gospels is all about the age of Aries ending around the time of Jesus and the Age of Pices, the Fishes, beginning. It is no coincidence that right after Jesus overcame Satan, he went to Galilee, which means “circuit” as in circuit of the SON, or SUN depending on which location you are seeing the story in, he meets TWO FISHERMEN, Peter and Andrew and makes them Disciples. Jesus making his circuit all around Galilee, which means “circuit,” with his 12 disciples surround him, is no different than the SUN making it’s circuit (Galilee) surrounded by it’s 12 zodiacal disciples. The Sign of Pices is that of two fish. It is not coincidence that in the feeding of the multitudes, there were TWO Fish and five loaves symbolizing the five known planets of the time, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Well there is much more. When Jesus as SON stood on the mount of transfiguration in the summer of his one year ministry, his face shone like the SUN at noon. This is because this earthly event is the literal fact in the cosmos that in June, the summer Solstice finds the SUN at its highest, being the MOST HIGH for the year and brilliant light. Jesus, standing on that “high mountain” in summer, face shining like the sun was doing what the SUN was doing as well as MOST HIGH right over his head. This is not coincidence either. From June, it is all down hill for the SUN and for Jesus the SON. Cancer the crab, which moves backwards and is for July and August symbolizes that the SON and SUN were going backwards now to their fate. Jesus is betrayed in the Fall by Judas, that scorpion, just as the SUN is stung and betrayed by Scorpio in its dive to oblivion in December. The Archer then takes over as Sagittarius, just as the mob does and both SUN and SON are pierced. They die in late December appearing to be gone and as the SUN lies for three days in the southern hemisphere, considered the grave and appears to neither go further south, nor come back north, so Jesus lies three days as the SON of GOD in the grave. This is December 22-24, the Winter Solstice, But it’s all good. One December 25th the SUN and SON are born and brought forth by the Virgin Mary or the Virgin Virgo overhead and the cycle starts again. Pretty cool huh? Ever hear that in Church? You won’t. But realize, the SUN that rises and sets everyday around the planet, while holding little attention of modern busy men and women today, was THE source of all religion on the planet. Because the greatest fear men have and have had in history is fear of the dark. Dark was evil and so became “The Evil” or “De-evil or Devil. Just as the SUN of GOD overcomes the darkness as it makes it’s one year rise and fall from birth to death, so Jesus as the literalized SON of GOd, overcomes the Devil and delivers us from darkness too. The story that is literally true happens in the cosmos, over your head every minute of every day, month and year. The more suspect one, made literally true, is what you hear in Sunday school….Hey! Beyond Dating: What Everybody Should Know About Praying To Keep A Relationship

March 29th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Elisha Goodman As I glanced in my rearview mirror,I could see the huge red fire truckbearing down on me… lights flashingaggressively. Hastily, I made it out of the way justin time. But then something odd struck me… thesirens were not blaring. There wasn’tan emergency. What was going on? Then I looked closely. And what I saw? A lovely young girl with hair likeburnished gold… maybe 19, 21, dressedin sparkling white bridal garment… alongwith a sharply dressed, smiling young man.Holding hands together and standing inthe back of the open-air truck they werewaving and smiling at the crowd. Whoa! This young couple newly married justhired a fire truck for the evening drivearound town! I joined the crowd and waved back. Thespectacle just brightened the wholeplace and drew smiles of joy from theface of everyone. At that moment it dawned on me what aprecious joyful thing a successful datingcould lead to… This was 6:15pm Thursday evening. Another Time, Another Place Different set of people. By 7 am Sunday morning in church I wasjolted back to hard cold reality… likesomeone poured a bucket of ice-cold wateron me. It happened when I innocently asked abrother how his family was doing … “She’s gone… walked out on mewith the kids,” came the sad reply. “Y…you m..mean…” I stammered tryingto contain my shock. Not these ones. They always seemed so happy… alwayssmiling. “She just said she felt like shewas in prison or something. Packed upwith our 2 kids and left for Arizona,”he said sighing wearily. Then a thought struck me. “I’m so sorry to hear that.” I began. “That’s okay, thanks,” he said. “Excuse me for asking this…is thereany pattern like this in your family…or hers?” “Not mine,” he said gently but firmly,”in her family no one stays married forlong.” Hmmm. Before that week was over I had heardof 5 more similar cases. What could be going wrong? Shocking Revelations In our ministry years back we did anin-depth spiritual research intodisintegrating relationships and upcame certain shocking revelations. Some of them were not pretty. In fact, the problem starts with one of theoldest and most successful strategiesin the book - confusion of tongues. For students of the Bible, this age-oldweapon was first used by God Himself againstthe builders of the tower of babel in thebook of Genesis 11. It is such an effective weapon thatit can create suspicion, misunderstandingand general confusion in a relationship…in no time at all. The man and woman begin to disagreeon practically everything… no oneis listening to the other and beforelong communication breaks down… thenterrible things begin to happen from there. So we leant to pray the prayer of thepsalmist, “O Lord, divide the tonguesof all those targeting my marriage fordestruction.” - see Ps 55:9. In some relationships, We also uncovered apattern of: * breakup or divorce either in theman’s family or on the woman’sside or both. * marital problems transferred fromone generation to another… * hidden spiritual “marriages” in place. * invisible marks of hatred placedon the man or woman. This makesone repulsive to the other and viceversa - after only a few years of marriage. * warning signals ignored or simply notunderstood. Sometimes these warningscame through dreams. etc. To give you an example, once we found aman who was deeply in love with his date…and they got married - for 6 months. Then all of a sudden he couldn’t stand thesight of her. No one could think ofanything wrong that she had done. Eventually he walked out on her. She went for counselling… no solution. Her friends took her to all kinds of”prophets.” She went to see 5 differenttherapists, 2 psychics and even ahypnotist. Nothing worked. She went into prayer asking God fora more compatible person to date. No response. As she put it she had desperately prayedto God to send her that special someonewith whom she could glorify and give Himpraise… no answer. In fact all she seemed to be getting turnedout to be nothing but “wolves in sheep’sclothing.” She gave up… not knowing how to navigatethe tricky minefield of finding a sincere, godfearing man to share her love with. Then the Lord had mercy on her. One day, a friend at work invited her toa Friday night prayer meeting. It was an anointed session… and miracleswere happening. During the prayers one sister noticed aninvisible mark on her forehead… a tinystar-shaped symbol that was not visibleto the naked eye. She stopped the prayers and raised thissingular prayer point just for her: “Blood of Jesus, wipe off all handwritingof hatred and rejection from my life inthe name of Jesus.” They prayed it 3 hot times, praised theLORD for the answer and moved right onto the next prayer point. Result? That same weekend the husband called for thevery first time since the breakup. 12 more sessions of anointed prayers(with fasting) followed …and hubbycame home. Do you happen to knowanyone whose relationship is not allit could be, maybe a friend oreven a relative? * Or the marriage is on the verge of hittingthe rocks * Or has broken down already * Or tell-tale signs of wear and tear arebeginning to show * Or someone believing the LORDfor a godly spouse * Or any couple just trying to safeguard theirmarriage * Or a close friend just fed up with the boredomand loneliness of the single life? Do them a favor… learn to pray for them. I meanthe type of prayer that works. Because there are prayers that work like little hingesthat move big doors. These are prayers of spiritual: * housecleaning * restoration * prevention And they help you reap the benefits of a successfuldating for a long time to come…to the fullest. Tooth Whitening Kits

March 28th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Jason Gluckman Tooth-whitening kits are meant to provide lasting results in the shortest possible time. The existing cultural demand to have clean and attractive teeth has given rise to a surge of new tooth-whitening kits in the consumer market. These tooth-whitening kits are easily available online and can be bought at more or less the same prices as other, less effective tooth-whitening products. These kits vary from small plastic kits placed on the tooth overnight to professionally designed tooth trays that let the bleaching gel become absorbed into the enamel. Typically, in a bleach-based tooth whitener kit, a tooth bleaching agent is applied to a mouth tray, and then the tray is inserted into the mouth. Most of these trays have to be worn for just an hour. A major disadvantage of this method is the need to sit for an hour or so with the mouth open. The whiter the teeth have to be, the longer the need to maintain the same tiring position. It is possible to get some very good tooth-whitening kits today. Some have a uniquely balanced formula that releases active oxygen to brighten and whiten teeth safely and naturally. With a neutral pH, unlike some similar products which are acidic, this is soft on the teeth. Tooth-whitening kits contain xylitol, a powerful anticaries agent to prevent tooth decay, and potassium, which creates a de-sensitizing effect that is ideal for people with sensitive gums. Home tooth-whitening kits are similar to those that a dental professional would use; the difference is that the concentrations of active ingredients in these are lower. Higher concentrations are permitted in an office formula since those are applied by a professional who understands how it works and who has precise control over the application. The latest clinical studies show that tooth-whitening kits are harmless when used as directed. Hence, based on the available scientific information, it can be safely concluded that there is no cause for concern about the possible adverse effects on tooth structure or enamel hardness. How to Nurture Intimacy When You’re in a Long-Distance Marriage

March 26th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Nancy Wasson The biggest problem long-distance spouses often face is how to keep emotional intimacy alive when they are separated. If you are in a long-distance marriage, you are probably already using email and the telephone as much as possible to stay in touch. But what else can you do to stay connected with your partner and not lose that special bond between you? One suggestion is to take the extra time to also send “snail mail” greeting cards, letters, and postcards when possible. Buy an assortment of cards when you have a chance, and that will make it easier to send out one or two cards each week. Vary the type of cards that you send–some romantic, some funny. You could also send postcards to add variety and show scenes of the geographic area where you are working. In your letters and emails, don’t only talk about what activities you’ve been involved in, but be sure to share your feelings about what’s going on in your life. Ask feeling-related questions, such as “Do you ever worry that one day we’ll have been married 20 years and we’ll discover that we don’t really know each other?” Also share memories and experiences from childhood and the years before you met. Write your spouse a letter telling her (or him)what you love about her, what attracted you to her, what you admire about her, and why you want to stay married to her. Before you send it to her, make a copy for yourself and read it once a day to remind yourself of all the positives about your spouse. Ask her to do the same for you. Look for ways to create reminders that will trigger thoughts of each other when you’re apart. For example, you might consider naming a star for your spouse at the International Star Registry (www.starregistry.com). Then, each starry night, you will both feel connected as you look for “your star.” You might come up with some other symbols to trigger your thoughts, such as agreeing to think of each other every time you see a certain type of bird. Or pick a car with special meaning and think of each other every time you see a red Camaro, for example. Perhaps you will both agree to listen to a certain song on a CD before you go to sleep each night, knowing the other person is doing the same thing. Brainstorm about ways you can feel connected even when you’re not talking on the phone or emailing each other. Mail your husband (or wife) a tape of yourself reading a love poem or sweet letter you have written to him. Send small surprise gifts when you can. They don’t have to be expensive; they just need to show that you’re thinking of him. You could order gifts of gourmet candy, nuts, popcorn, flowers, or other items from the Internet. Or you could give a magazine subscription to your spouse so she (or he) will think of you each time the publication arrives. Another idea is to send her a new CD that you think she’ll like or a paperback book. Consider creating your own web site where you can post photos you both take with a digital camera. The pictures could show scenes from your life apart and also pictures from the times you are together. Over time, this would document your history as well as your current life as a couple. One site that provides free web hosting for family web sites is www.myfamily.com. Other ideas include having a print shop like Kinko’s put a photograph of you and your spouse on coffee mugs, or having a photograph put on a T-shirt or sweatshirt for each of you. If you have some common interests in reading or listening to audio books, pick a book to read or listen to at the same time and then discuss it as you go along. Put on your creative thinking cap and experiment to see what works best for the two of you. By using your imagination, you can deepen your emotional connection with your spouse, even though you’re physically separated by thousands of miles. Nancy J. Wedding Favors to Fit Anyone

March 24th, 2008 by geniawillison

By Jeanette Shinn Once you have a head count and at least a rough idea of what your budget will support, the fun begins. There are no rules to giving wedding favors, so have fun! You want the wedding favors to be memorable, so look for a way to match the wedding favor to you as a couple. If you are getting married near Christmas, why not get Christmas tree placecard holder as a wedding favor? By the way, placecard holders are especially good wedding favors if you are having a formal dinner with assigned seating because then your wedding favor serves to identify the individuals seat as well. If you and your intended met at the beach, or are famous among your circle of friends for always being at the beach, what could be a more suitable wedding favor than sailboat themed tea light holders, sea shell spreaders, or clam shaped bath fizzes? Perhaps you and your future spouse are writers, what could be more perfect wedding favors than personalized pens? In some cases, wedding favors come in the form of an edible treat. Its a special truffle, a personalized container of coffee printed with your name and wedding date printed on the bag, or its a specially decorated cookie, or a small jar of honey with your name and date on it, or, or, or…. Just one note when dealing with edible wedding favors; remember that food allergies can really spoil a celebration. Most people know what they are allergic to, so find a way to announce (a printed card placed in a conspicuous spot on the table works great) the type of edible wedding favors so no one discovers the truth the hard way. Of course, the list of options in wedding favors is as endless as your imagination. If you can dream a wedding favor up and fit it into your budget chances are good that you can find someone to provide that perfect wedding favor for your wedding celebration. Be sure to have special favors for the children that will be at your wedding reception. This may come in the form of a coloring book and small pack of crayons. These wedding favors might work to keep peace at your reception in the same way they do at restaurants. Another potentially excellent childs wedding favor might be a hand held game or small puzzle. If your budget is tight but you still want to give a wedding favor as a token of your love and appreciation, consider buying fewer wedding favors than anticipated guests and putting them in a basket on a table for people to pick up on their way out. This way, those that dont care to take a wedding favor can leave the wedding favor behind gracefully without any danger of anyones feelings being hurt. Another option, which will cut your cost nearly in half is to provide one wedding favor per couple (it is still in good form to provide one wedding favor each for people who come by themselves). A third option is to make wedding favors yourself. This can be a fun project for the bridesmaids (but not the night before the wedding) to do with the bride. For example, a few bags of candy coated chocolates, a length of tulle, and some ribbon will produce fun little treats that you can give as a wedding favor. It really doesnt matter what you do, ultimately its the gesture that makes the difference not the wedding favor itself. Finally, wedding favors can serve as the finishing touches of your decorating scheme that ties everything else together. For example, your wedding is in the spring, youve got flowers everywhere, what could be better than a wedding favor of a small vase with a flower for each person (or couple)? Or maybe spring colored tiny pails with pastel candies in them would be the wedding favor for you. It really doesnt matter. Use wedding favors to show your appreciation and love to those who took the time to come to celebrate your wedding while at the same time making your wedding favors work for you! Florida DUI Attorney FAQs

March 22nd, 2008 by geniawillison

By Josh Riverside What is the range of fees for Florida DUI attorneys? Florida DUI lawyer’s fees could vary largely depending on the nature of the case. Factors to consider include degree of offense, whether the defendant has been convicted of misdemeanor or felony, whether the offense if the first or is a repeat, whether the offense has caused damage to life or property, and the client’s requirements and expectations. It could cost anywhere from $500 to $2,000. Fees could also vary depending on the reputation of the attorney. Famous ones probably charge a little more. If you are facing a minor and first offense, you do not need to choose the cream of the crop. But if you have a severe case and you have caused damage to life or property, you may want to get a more experienced Florida DUI attorney. This would cost you more. The fee would be small, however, compared to jail time (especially if you are sentenced to thirty years). Consider several DUI attorneys before employing one to assess if fees charged to you are reasonable. Q: What is the best resource for Florida DUI Attorneys? One of the best resources for Florida DUI Attorneys is the Internet. There are several lawyer directories that are easy-to-use and are categorized according to area. You can also go to your favorite search engine and key in “Florida DUI Attorneys.” You will find DUI lawyers with websites and even online legal help. You can also check the local telephone directory and find one nearest your area. Q: Do I really need attorney for my DUI case even if it is just a first offense? It is possible to just make a plea bargain with the District Attorney’s Office. But it could also mean more jail time than if you had retained an attorney, especially if your case is serious. Q: How long will it take for the case to be solved? Again, this is entirely variable depending on the nature of the case. Upon arrest, you have a maximum of ten days to make a special plea and save your license from being revoked indefinitely. Upon submission of written request, a “pretrial” will follow and it is here where the lawyer can negotiate to not go to the trial itself and close the case from there. But if the case has to go to trial because of a serious or a complex case, then it may take from a month to a year depending on the number of cases charged like vehicular homicide. The trial itself is held within the six months the plea was submitted. Q: Will my lawyer walk me through the whole process and constantly update me on my case? A good lawyer should be able to update you on your case regularly and is fairly reachable even in off-hours (if there is an emergency). This should be the case especially if you are paying your lawyer well. Be sure to ask this question to your prospective lawyer even before you employ his or her services. Q: What are included in the lawyer’s fees exactly? This depends a lot on the attorney. Some charge by the hour and others will require an initial payment for retainer fees. Be sure to sign an agreement with your lawyer regarding what the fees will cover and the terms of additional costs.
